Couples Therapy

It used to be so simple to connect and communicate.

You love each other, and yet it feels like there are so many things left unsaid between you. Maybe you are struggling to connect sexually. Whether it’s starting a family or another significant change to your relationship dynamic, couples therapy is a space where you can build awareness and skills to truly hear one another and get back the connection that you miss so much.

You’ve been through a betrayal or loss of trust.

All relationships go through seasons, especially when we are in them for a long time. It could be that there has been a betrayal, such as an affair. A loss of trust can happen in other ways, perhaps you needed your partner, and they weren’t there for you. Or maybe some major change in your relationship has your relationship feeling stormy or suddenly uncertain.

You feel stuck in the same pattern no matter what you try.

You aren’t alone. Even when you are a great match in most other ways, you may find yourself unintentionally triggering your partner’s defenses (and vice versa). It can leave you trapped in a cycle of self-protection that can look like conflict, withdrawal, or a mix of both.

Or maybe a new baby brought a “bundle of joy” but also a ton of stress.

You knew it was going to be hard, but nothing could have prepared you for this. Life as you’ve known it is turned upside-down as you give all your focus to this new little person who is entirely dependent on you. It leaves zero to no space for you or your relationship. You might be snapping at each other, or perhaps you just feel worlds apart.

The sex life you once enjoyed feels like a distant memory.

Perhaps you are not having sex at all or as often as one or both of you would like. Or maybe you just aren’t feeling sexually compatible anymore. Sex is a vital part of relationships, and for some, it can feel difficult to talk about. I create a safe and welcoming space and invite you to talk about your sexual connection.

I want you to know there’s hope.

We can work together to help you get through this challenging time and understand how you got here so you can avoid ending up in this pattern again in the future.

“Love doesn’t just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new.”

Ursula K. Le Guin

 My Approach

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy

I primarily use an approach called EFT, a clinically-proven therapy for couples that can help you improve your communication and connection profoundly. This method allows you to have new conversations and see yourselves and your relationship in a whole new light.

Couples that I work with find that it helps them resolve current issues while also helping them recognize and prevent challenges before they even start. It allows them to have a better understanding of what is actually going on with their partner, rather than feel like they have to guess.

I work with intimate relationships of all lengths, relationship or marital status, and type, including consensually non-monogamous and kinky.

Family Therapy

A place where, with support and guidance, you can have the hard conversations, hear one another in a new way, and learn skills to communicate in a healthy, helpful, and assertive way.

Adolescence and teenage years can bring challenges, stress, and changes to your family dynamics.

Maybe your teen’s behavior has changed suddenly. Their grades have slipped. They may be withdrawn or hanging out with a new group of friends and making risky decisions. Perhaps they seem to be excessively hard on themselves. Maybe they just seem anxious or worried about everything. When you try to talk with them about it, you feel like you just aren’t getting through, or maybe like you don’t even really know your child anymore.

Sometimes when one family member’s behavior changes, every member of the family has to work together to help, but it can be really hard to know how to do that.

"Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible - the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family."

Virginia Satir

My experience

I’ve gained much of my clinical experience in my fifteen-plus years working with children, teens, and families in community-based programs and at both public and private schools. This work has included direct therapy with adolescents and families and consultation with caregivers, parents, and school staff.
